Traffic engineering involves the design, construction and maintenance of roads, airports, subways and railways. Structural Engineering focuses on the structural design and analysis of all types of building projects, from skyscrapers to railway tunnels. Structural engineers typically specialize in large construction projects such as buildings, roads, bridges, subway systems, dams, and water networks. Civil engineering can be large-scale, such as the development of a national transportation system or water supply network, or small-scale, such as the construction of individual roads or buildings.

Civil engineers are human engineers who are responsible for the planning, design, construction, and management of civil structures, including critical infrastructure such as roads, buildings, airports, tunnels, dams, bridges, and water and sewer systems. Structural engineers also design retaining walls, slopes and tunnels. They provide sufficient strength and durability for large projects such as dams or bridges. Transportation engineers work with everyday transportation systems such as roads and highways.

 Civil Engineers (CEs) are involved in public works including highways, railroads, bridges, buildings, and water and power systems. Structural engineers can be found in the aerospace industry, designing airliners and space stations; in the automotive industry - increasing the load-bearing capacity of the frame and increasing the impact resistance of bumpers and doors; and they can be found in shipbuilding, energy and many other industries where building structures are involved.


Civil engineers work in an office most of the time, but sometimes they may need to visit an open construction site to supervise the construction process or resolve any issues that may arise.
